Religion in Australia

In the 21st century, religion in Australia is demographically dominated by Christianity, with 64% of the population claiming at least nominal adherence to the Christian faith as of 2007, although less than a quarter of those attend church weekly. 18.7% of Australians declared "no-religion" on the 2006 Census with a further 11.2% failing to answer the question. The remaining population is a diverse group that includes Islamic and Buddhist communities.

The Constitution of Australia prohibits the Commonwealth government from establishing a church or interfering with the freedom of religion, however, states are free under their own constitutions to interfere or establish a church, although none ever has. The relationship between the Commonwealth government and religion is much freer than in the United States, with governments working with religious organisations that provide education, health and other public services.
