a. Education Calendar
The school year runs from late September through late July with a two-month vacation during the summer.
b. Compulsory Education
Compulsory education in England include primary and secondary schools. Primary schools from age 5 to 11 years in the period of 6 years. First and second year and third year are called infants up to six so-called Junior. At primary school level is not in the exam held for students ranging from grade one to grade six, except for the ability test conducted when the child was seven years old. The emphasis is on learning by discovery rather than memorization. Students learn core subjects like English, mathematics and science, as well as foundation subjects such as history, geography, music, art and sports.
Secondary schools starting from age 11 to 16 years in the normal period of 5 years. At every level students deepen their learning in core subjects and plus at least one foreign language lessons. In the 4th year before they prepare to take examinations called the General Certificate of Secondary Education or GCSE. After completing his GCSE exams, secondary school students can leave school to work, follow the training programs at vocational or technical school, or continue two more years to prepare for university entrance exams, known as "A-Levels."
c. Education Options
1) A Levels
A Levels is a continuation of high school if they want to get into university bench. Taken for 2 years. In this level students will learn 3 to 4 subjects for A Levels exams.
2) Degree Program
Undergraduate level, students in the UK can choose art and sciences majors. The program usually lasts for three years, during which students can complete courses and tutorials in their respective fields. Graduating students are usually required to sit the final exam.
3) Post Graduate and Doctoral
Study was conducted 1 to 2 years. They earn a degree is a master arts (MA) or master of science (MSc) and Master in Business Administration (MBA) after they complete their studies. As in Indonesia, at this level students must complete all the studies, a thesis and sit final exams. Graduate students can also continue the doctoral or PhD programs.
